The Internet of Things (IoT) describes the network of physical objects--"things"--that are embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and exchanging data with other devices and systems over the internet. These devices can be anything from simple household items to highly-technical industrial tools. Experts expect this number to rise to 10 billion in 2020 and 22 billion in 2025, with more than 7 billion connected IoT devices. Oracle has a network device partner.
What makes Internet of Things (IoT), so important?
IoT has been one of the most important technologies in the 21st century over the last few years. We can now connect every day objects, such as kitchen appliances, thermostats and baby monitors, to the internet through embedded devices. This allows seamless communication between people, processes, or things.
Low-cost computing, the cloud and big data analytics can allow physical objects to share and collect data without any human intervention. Digital systems can monitor, adjust, and record every interaction between connected objects in this hyperconnected world. They cooperate when the physical world meets digital.
