Materials are the components that make up a machine and allow it to function in a way that is needed in a particular scenario. The type of material used in a machine will depend on the application in which the machine is being used. In this article, we will explore what mechanical material are and how they can be used for different purposes.

What are mechanical materials?


Mechanical material are typically made up of metal, non-metallic (such as glass, ceramic, rubber, and polymer) and ceramic materials, which are used in industry for various purposes.


Metal is an excellent structural and mechanical material, which makes it a popular choice for the construction of machine parts and vehicles. Metal parts are used in electrical and electronic applications. For example, engine parts in cars and hydraulic components in aircrafts are made of metal.


Non-metallic Some non-metallic materials are more versatile than metal. They are used for different applications that require different properties such as electrical conductivity, weather resistance, strength, corrosion resistance, and dimensional stability.


How to identify different types of mechanical materials

All materials, whether they be metal, plastic or paper, have the same three basic elements:


• Ratio (the quantity of one type of element in a mass)

• Shape (which type of element is located in the mass)
